Brain Waves was a 400sq ft exhibit that was developed for the Calgary Science Center. This exhibit consisted of multiple stand alone displays that educated the public on issues that pertained to the brain. Each piece consisted of an interactive element that would involve and educate the audience.
The different elements in Brain Waves included an exposed model silicon semi-transparent brain and skull with led light’s hidden within the brain. The lights correspond with a story that the user must step through properly allowing for each portion of the brain to light up. After completing the story the exhibit cheers and the jaw moves on the skull. This ties into the story, as the questions pertain to a person (in this case named Kala) wanting to eat a cookie, and the correct sequence moves the jaw which is lined up with a cookie so as to complete the story. Other exhibit pieces included questions and answers through interactive buttons, lights and sounds would reward the correct answer. A plasticised real human brain on display in a plexi casing for all to view, and is in a case that staff can open to allow for guests to actually touch and play with. X-ray tables with real X-rays of various body parts and surgeries. And lastly a variety of models and puzzles on display including 3-D brain puzzles for guests to interact with. |
